Remembering Aberfan

AberfanIn the words of Martyn Joseph: “I asked my mother where I was in October ’66“.

My father-in-law the Revd Irving Penberthy was in Aberfan seeing the devastation that had destroyed the primary school and taken away half of the Sunday School from his Methodist chapel.

For four days Dad’s family didn’t see him as he comforted families, helped in the searches for survivors and dealt with grieving and angry relatives.

Now he longs to be among the people who are able to commemorate next year’s 50th anniversary of the disaster.
